Takeshi's Castle: Comedy Central, Thailand, Indonesia and Beyond!

Comedy Central's Takeshi's Castle logo

Back in 2017, Takeshi's Castle made a long-awaited return to UK screens, with Takeshi's Castle Thailand getting the reversion treatment from Comedy Central. Fans of the classic Japanese show were thrilled to see the same classic games and challenges, but this time with a fresh Thai twist. Jonathan Ross provided the voice-over for this re-edited version in the UK, but the Takeshi's Castle we love was still there to be found.

Comedy Central Reversioning

Comedy Central’s decision to reversion Takeshi's Castle Thailand for the UK audience gave the familiar format a new life, with hilarious and surreal moments that stayed true to the spirit of the original.

The reboot wasn't just limited to the UK, though. Comedy Central saw potential in this global hit and broadcast the new version across its international channels, each with localised voice-overs. So, whether you were watching in the UK, around Europe, or anywhere else, the chaotic energy of Takeshi's Castle Thailand reached a whole new audience.

Takeshi's Castle Thailand: A New Era

Takeshi's Castle Thailand wasn’t just another gameshow—it took everything that made the original Japanese series a cult favourite and added its own cultural spin. Based around the story of General Shahkrit and his mission to rescue the imprisoned Princess Woonsen from the ruthless Shogun Takeshi, the Thai edition kept the same spirit of the original but with a Thai narrative twist. And, of course, it featured the same well-loved games, from Knock Knock to Avalanche.

The show ran in Thailand from 2014 to 2016, gaining popularity not just domestically but also catching the eyes of fans worldwide. With the UK version on Comedy Central, this revived Takeshi's Castle Thailand reintroduced the show to a modern audience, while staying true to the original series.

The Roman Connection

After its successful UK airing on Comedy Central, Takeshi's Castle Thailand found itself repackaged once again, this time for a younger audience on Nickelodeon. Roman Kemp, who'd already been providing a voiceovers for Comedy Central’s edit of Takeshi’s Castle Indonesia, was brought on board to voice the Nickelodeon version. His energetic commentary style brought a new feel to the show, perfect for young viewers.

Though it moved from one channel to another, Takeshi's Castle Thailand still had that same charm, proving that the Takeshi's Castle's appeal is truly universal. Whether you watched it on Comedy Central or caught the repackaged episodes on Nickelodeon, it was hard not to get swept up in the fun.

Takeshi’s Castle’s Global Reach

Takeshi's Castle Thailand wasn’t just a regional hit—it helped spark renewed interest in the format globally. With Takeshi's Castle now familiar to viewers across multiple countries and generations, this version paved the way for future revivals and reboots of the show - including Takeshi's Castle Indonesia, Takeshi's Castle Saudi Arabia, and the Prime Video revival.

Even today, Takeshi's Castle Thailand serves as a reminder that the show's legacy lives on, having successfully evolved from its original Japanese incarnation to adapt to new cultural contexts without losing the essence of what made it a worldwide sensation in the first place.
